Reliable and Efficient Casino Air Handling

Hammond Casino

Horseshoe Hammond

Horseshoe Casino Hammond, located approximately 20 minutes from Chicago, is a 400,000-square-foot (37,000 m2) property containing gaming, entertainment, restaurants, bars, and lounges.

Air Enterprises was called on to design, get approved, fabricate, test and ship parallel air handling units with common corridors within fifteen weeks of notice of intent to award an order. The overall size of the assembly was 38’0” wide, 97’0” long, and 12’5” high.

As casino operations are essentially twenty-four hours per day, three hundred sixty-five days per year, unit and component reliability was critical. Heavy duty, industrial quality components were used throughout the units. Design margins were conservative to afford a capacity reserve to accommodate any future load increases.

Continuous operation also demands a high degree of maintainability. Service functions can be conducted in the service corridor, protected from the weather. Generous spaces between components facilitates maintenance efforts within the air handling units

This casino is located in a heavy industrial area on the southern tip of Lake Michigan. Industrial emissions and waterfront odors from the outdoor air coupled with high levels of tobacco smoke anticipated in the return air made proper filtration critical. Particulate filtration to 99.97% efficiency and activated carbon gas phase filtration technologies

Sound was also a major concern in the design of this facility. Sound attenuators were employed on both the supply and return sides of the air-handling units. Air Enterprises’ manufactured custom sound attenuation to meet the requirement at the full width and height of the units.
